Today I wanted to sleep in. It is a Sunday morning. I was tired. Like really tired. It was kind of morning where the alarm goes off and I can barely open my eyes. If you had asked me my name or where I was at in those first waking moments I wouldn’t have been able to tell you because I was coming out of such a deep sleep. However, I didn’t sleep in. I hit snooze a few times, woke up my husband Justin, and then we got up and got the kids ready for church. Why did I bother, when my comfortable, cushy bed was calling to me and for once the kids were all still asleep and it was past 7am? Because I want to be the example for my kids on what is truly important in life. Christ is the most important thing. He is our reason for existing. He is the reason we get to go to heaven someday. He is #1 on the list of important things in life. If we say that our relationship with God is at the top of our list of priorities, well then our actions better show it. Even when we “don’t feel like it”, we need to be obedient to God and be there on Sunday morning. It is more than just learning about God when we go to church. It is also our time to praise and worship the King of all Kings and show him how much we adore him and that we are thankful for in this life. Church is our time to openly worship and praise God. Not everyone in this world is allowed to do this. It is a privilege and freedom that we have. I don’t want to take for granted this precious privilege that we have.

Do my kids understand church yet and the message that Christ brought to earth? Probably not, but they will soon. It starts young. Their minds are little sponges. What do you want to fill your kids minds with? I often ask myself this question. The answer is that I want them to have a relationship with God first and foremost in life. All else comes second in life. Therefore, I want to show my kids that not only do we go to church on Sunday, but a relationship with God is so much more. It is praying daily and truly talking to God in their own voice, as I try to do the same and show them by example. It is about reading God’s word. What better way to know God than to read the message that he gave so clearly to us in written word- The Bible!

As we were singing the lyrics “I am found in you Lord” it certainly rang true in my heart and mind this morning. My personal relationship with Christ is the reason that I have true joy in my heart and my life. Is life easy? Of course not. However, my life is fulfilled because I have Christ in my life. I have a joy in my heart that is hard to even explain. I simply know that the joy deep inside me comes from Christ and my relationship with him. I want my kids to have that same fulfillment and joy. More importantly, I want to see them in heaven someday. We will be in church on Sunday mornings, but we will also teach them about God in our home daily, so that they know and understand that God truly is the #1 priority in life.

Psalm 28:7

The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.
