I had been searching for toddler bed sized quilts or comforters for the twin’s beds. I hadn’t found anything I liked, but I did find a fabric I liked at hobby lobby. I decided to make them the blankets myself. I have made quilts in the past, but it is time consuming. After some research online I found that IKEA makes duvet inserts for toddler size beds! I purchased two of the duvet inserts and then made the duvet covers.
To make the duvet covers it was quite easy. I chose one fabric for the top and another for the bottom side, I then made the duvet cover by making what looks like a giant pillowcase. I used the size of the duvet insert to dictate the dimensions of the duvet cover. Instead of a zipper on the end (bottom) to close the duvet, I used three velcro strips. Much easier to sew on Velcro. That way I also knew my twins wouldn’t zip one another into their duvet covers.
