I used to commit to decorate for Christmas the day after Thanksgiving. It was an annual tradition for many years of my life. I changed my mind. Yes, we are all allowed to change our minds and start new traditions. My new tradition (for the past couple of years) is to decorate anytime after Halloween. This year we decorated the first week of November….And I love it. Research (such as that discussed in this article:https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.businessinsider.com/putting-christmas-decorations-up-early-makes-you-happier-2017-11) has shown that people who decorate for Christmas earlier are actually happier! Why not bring some extra joy and cheer into life sooner than later. There is no rule that says you can’t decorate before Thanksgiving. It’s ok to decorate when you want to do it. You are even allowed to start new traditions and begin decorating for Christmas before Thanksgiving.
I do admit that I too feel that the stores begin to market Christmas far too early. I am a huge fan of Hobby Lobby, but Christmas items going on display in August does nothing for me. I like the building anticipating in October, doing all the fall things and decorating for fall that month. Then once November hits it’s time to transition to Christmas in my home! Below are some photos of our Christmas decor that we put up recently in our home. I hope you and your family enjoy a happy and lovely Christmas season! And feel to decorate when the mood hits you!
…and yes we have 4 Christmas trees. Guilty.
